Asteroceras obtusum - Charmouth, Dorset

An Asteroceras obtusum from Charmouth, Dorset. This specimen was collected from a 'flatstone' nodule on Stonebarrow Beach. It exhibits a minor albeit unusual pathology at the boundary between the body chamber and the phragmocone; an interesting specimen for the collector. 

Age: Lower Jurassic, approximately 195 million years old.

Location: Charmouth, Dorset, UK.

Size of ammonite: Approximately 7 cm. 

Size of block: Approximately 23 cm x 16 cm at its largest points.
