Palaeocoma egertoni - Eype, Dorset

An elegant brittlestar (Palaeocoma egertoni) from Eype, Dorset. This specimen is unusual in that it does not lay flat on the bedding surface, rather it appears to have curled over upon itself. Fossils from this classic locality are becoming ever more difficult to source. 

Age: Lower Jurassic, approximately 185 million years old.

Location: Eype, Dorset, UK.

Size of brittlestar: Approximately 10 cm.

Size of block: Approximately 15 cm x 15 cm.
