Promicroceras planicosta - Charmouth, Dorset

A classic Promicroceras planicosta from Charmouth, Dorset on the world-famous Jurassic Coast. Preserved in a 'woodstone' nodule, the matrix also contains the remains of a branch of wood with oysters encrusting its surface. 

Age: Lower Jurassic, approximately 195 million years old.

Location: Charmouth, Dorset, UK.

Size of ammonite: 21 mm.

Size of block: Approximately 8.5 cm x 6 cm.
